Description

Spanning Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Slovenia, the lower courses of the Drava and Mura Rivers and related sections of the Danube are among Europe’s most ecologically important riverine areas: the so-called “Amazon of Europe”.

Our full-day excursion takes you through the heart of the “Amazon of Europe”, the Mura-Drava Regional Park, which is the longest protected area in Europe. This unique river landscape can also boast of a number of rare habitats such as large floodplain forests, river islands and sand banks.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Varaždin – Drava forest park – learn about the diversity of flora and fauna of the Drava forest park
• Visit Special Ornithological Reserve “Veliki Pažut” – the estuary of the Drava and the Mura rivers
• Dravski Peski desert (“Croatian Sahara”) – explore how is it to be in desert for a day
• Križnica – the only inhabited river island in Croatia

ITINERARY:

• 7:30 – Zagreb – Hotel pickup
• 07:30 – 9:00 – Transfer to Varaždin region
• 9:00 – 17:00 –
  • Varaždin – Drava Forest Park
  • Special Ornithological Reserve “Veliki Pažut”
  • Dravski Peski desert (“Croatian Sahara”)
  • Križnica river island

• 17:00 – 19:00 – Return transfer to Zagreb
